The following letter will be distributed to students today (Wed 27/4) about the 2016 Athletics Carnival. Please click here (pdf 70 KB) to access document.
It states as follows:
WHS ATHLETICS CARNIVAL - 2016
The annual Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th April 2016 at the Woolgoolga Sports Ground. School buses will run as normal on Thursday and Friday. Students are to go to homegroup roll marking, get their competitor number written on their arm then walk to Sports Ground at 9.10.
On both days the carnival will begin at 9.20am for all students with a new event, the House Warcry Competition for bonus points. Day 1 is field events and Day 2 is track events. The only exception will be the 3000m race, starting at 8.30am on Friday 29th, for those students that nominate beforehand with Ms Hyder.
All students are encouraged to participate in the carnival and are reminded that normal attendance requirements will apply. Students are strongly advised to be SUNSMART i.e. wear a hat, have plenty of sunscreen and a shirt with sleeves (in your house colour). Midriff tops are NOT ACCEPTABLE; enclosed shoes are compulsory. There will be some marquees for shade.
Organisation will be slightly different this year with ALL students moving around the oval in their age groups to the timetabled events on Day 1. This allows for improved student participation, support and supervision. Every nomination for an event gets 2 throws or jumps with best 10 student performances completing a third throw or jump for placings.
Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend the carnival and support their children. It is requested that parents and caregivers do not bring take away food to the Athletics Carnival for the children during the day. Please encourage students to bring a packed lunch or support the Yr 12 fundraising BBQ.
Please follow normal school policy procedures regarding late arrival and early leaver students. This must occur at the front office with parental permission, and a print-out ticket must be obtained before proceeding to the school oval to deliver or collect student/s. The print out slip must be presented to the staff tent near the kiosk and shown to staff member for signing. Student drivers must park their vehicle at school and walk down to the oval.
To achieve GOLD award levels in 2016 students must ATTEND and be ACTIVELY INVOLVED in the school Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics carnivals. There are plenty of jobs for non-competitors so they can be ACTIVELY INVOLVED (setting up, data entry, running results etc.)
In the event of rain an announcement concerning alternative arrangements will be made on radio stations Star FM and 2CHY FM at approximately 7.30am. Please do not phone theses stations, wait and listen. Alternatively a message will be placed on the school's website. If you are unsure please send students prepared for both the athletics carnival and lessons.
Appropriate Mufti day dress will be acceptable, house colours are encouraged = Mullaway -> BLUE; Arrawarra -> RED; Emerald -> GREEN & Diamond -> YELLOW.
If you have any questions regarding the carnival please contact Ms Hyder or the Deputy Principal.
